Spotlight is a fun new feature here on the blog. The first person in the hot seat is our Apprentice Front-End Developer Lucile Vacquié! Dive in to learn more about her!

Welcome to a new series here on the Reach Blog, ‘Spotlight’.

Here at Reach we’re a hardworking team of thinkers, makers, developers, designers, and can-doers. Over the course of the next year we will be introducing each one of our team members so you can learn more about who makes this great team of ours tick.

First person in the spotlight, Lucile Vacquié!

Arriving in Sheffield from Brittany via Manchester, Lucile joined the team as an Apprentice Front-End Developer.

Keep on reading to learn a little more about one of our newest team members.

So Lucile, how did you get into this field of work?

Back in France, I studied Biology at uni. I worked as a food engineer in an ice cream factory for a year and half before coming to Manchester as an au pair. I wanted to do something positive during lockdown, something useful and new. I started without thinking I would actually like it to be honest. But I realised how rewarding it is to build something from scratch and that you actually need to be very creative as well. It just happened really!

What is the best thing you feel you have achieved in your working life?

I used to work in food industry as a food engineer but it wasn’t by passion. The best thing I’ve done is to learn how to code, took a risk and started a new career in tech.

Spotlight: Lucile Vacquié

Have you any hobbies?

I love DIY, up-cycling and finding second hand gems. I’m trying my best to be as eco-friendly as possible. I love a spot of charity shop shopping!

My favourite thing to do is travelling, I would go everywhere if I could. Up to now I have had the chance to step foot on 3 continents and visited 11 different countries.

Favourite food or drink?

At the moment I really miss French food, so I would say fresh snails and frogs legs! LOL.

Favourite TV show or film?

TV show would be The Witcher (I love the books as well).

Do you prefer working from home or the office?

I love going to work! It’s so important for me to build friendly relationships with my co-workers. I think remote working doesn’t allow you to do it as easily.

What’s the best piece of advice you’ve ever been given?

“Google it” haha.

What is your favourite item you’ve bought this year?

I’ve not bought much of anything this year really because of covid. However, I have just bought my first house so I guess that would be my answer!

If you had to delete all but 3 apps from your smartphone, which ones would you keep?

WhatsApp, Pinterest and Instagram.

Which band/artist – dead or alive would play at your funeral?

Queen – The Show Must Go On or AC/DC – Hell’s Bells.

Favourite album?

Caravelle by Polo & Pan.

Have you ever completed anything on your ‘bucket list’?

Something I’ve always wanted to do is to visit every continent. I’ve only been to three so far, but hopefully I will get chance to increase that number in the next few years.

What is left on your bucket list?

I would like to visit all 7 continents and adopt a golden retriever.

Do you know how to speak any other languages (other than French obviously!)?

No, except I am learning Spanish again, now that I don’t need English lessons anymore!

What is your favourite musical instrument and why?

I love piano, I can easily be transported to another planet just by listening to Debussy.

Best part of your job?

Being polyvalent, working on Front-end, Back-end and design. I just love being involved in the whole process.

Tell us something interesting about you that not many people know?

I have a big scary scar on my back from when I lived in Tahiti and a shark bit me. Ok, it wasn’t a shark but heart surgery, but it would have been a better story!

We are looking forward to witnessing Lucile’s progress throughout her development career. Watch this space!

Merci Lucile!
