If you run an online business or have a brick and mortar business with a web-store, you may be considering whether or not adding a blog to your eCommerce website is valuable. When discussing your online store the primary goal is to sell your products, but to do so, first, we need to drive traffic to your products. So, there are many different ways of doing that and below we will highlight 6 reasons why adding a blog to your eCommerce site is beneficial.

1. Search Engine Optimisation

It is common knowledge that SEO is a sound investment of your time, resource and budget, to drive more traffic to your eCommerce website. However did you know that a blog is one of the most effective free methods of improving your SEO, and as a result gets your site ranking higher on search engines, like Google and Bing. Adding a blog to your eCommerce site will significantly increase the amount of content your website contains. By offering more content your website is able to index more as a result. By including relevant keyword inside your blog posts you are likely to see an uplift in traffic.

Also, by sharing your blog posts on social media profiles, you will create more backlinks to your website, which will further boost your SEO.

2. Engages Your Customers

It is normal to focus al your attention on the single most important metric which is sales, or conversion. However, instead of creating a website your customers only visit when shopping, by implementing a blog you create a method of engaging your customers on an ongoing basis. There are multiple ways of going about this, below are a couple of ideas to get your started.

  • Share client success stories to reassure new visitors that your products are both legitimate and help improve customer’s lives.
  • Tell A Story, anything from inspirational stories relevant to your industry, inspiring stories your clients have shared, or the story of how your business came to be.
  • Offer industry knowledge, this will confirm to visitors that you are experts in your industry and that they can trust your products and recommendations.

3. It’s The Perfect Place To Make Announcements

just like traditional email marketing for your announcements, your new blog will be an excellent place for your customers to keep up with your latest news and updates. This could be anything from new products, answering Frequently Asked Questions, exclusive discounts or promotions, or anything new about your company you would like to share.

4. Builds Brand Loyalty

Even with the best products or services on the market, if you do not build brand loyalty, your retention or the number of repeat customers is likely to be low.

While your blog will not be the silver bullet to building brand loyalty, it plays a key role in the process. By striking the right balance of professional, fun, relevant, and informative, they will contribute to building loyalty.

5. Supports Your Social Media Marketing Efforts

Each post you create has a unique URL, that can share and direct traffic to via your social media posts.

Don’t forget to have buttons on your website and blog that also link back to your social media profiles, which will further help you achieve more fans and followers.

6. It’s A Free Marketing Platform

Regardless of budget, your blog is a highly effective form of free marketing. It takes nothing other than an investment of your time to create and post an article to your blog. Investing your marketing budget to promote some of your blog posts can help but each post will deliver organic traffic, if it is relevant, and some posts will be relevant for months, and others will be relevant for years.

The 6 reasons above are just some of the reasons why eCommerce blogs are beneficial. While results will not be achieved overnight, your blog posts will begin to pay off within your first few months.
