XPO Logistics and Marks & Spencer

Bespoke training and warehousing application built for XPO Logistics.

This is an exciting and innovative project we have been working on with XPO Logistics and Marks & Spencer for over 3 years which is constantly evolving. The application went live in 2017 after a year and half of development and prototyping.

At the beginning of 2015 we were asked to submit a proposal and plan for a development project based at the new state-of-the-art logistics centre in Bradford. This award-winning distribution facility at Prologis Park just off the M606, boasts 1.1 million square foot of space and has some of the worlds most high-tech automated warehousing technology which optimises its vast logistical network. Needless to say we were very excited when we first visited!

The brief

The brief was to create a complex application to record and authorise training across the XPO Logistics and Marks & Spencer network and agency staff for this centre with future-proofing in mind to enable scalability across other distribution centres in the UK. We had to create it using the corporate identity for XPO Logistics so it complied to the brand and corporation guidelines. We started first on the UX wireframes and started mapping out all of the features of the application, the user types and the actions between modules until we had a solid prototype.

Key challenges

The UI was designed to be super quick in loading, and the content and functionality areas optimised for devised with low signal or jumping between network points in a 1.1 million square foot place! Once we had all of the UI and structure created, we developed custom signature sections for signed documents, automated archive lists, documents and media uploads for training sessions, a complex training matrix, a calendar with automated notifications and trainer assignments, translator signatures, complex reporting and more!
